These Days...

You know what's not awesome? Sitting at the dealership waiting for your car service people to wrap it up so you can get on with your life. You know what is awesome? My weekends lately! Please have a look at some of my most recent adventures...

This weekend should be just as amazing as I have a movie date with about 16 coworkers to see our teammate "star" in Draft Day and a QuinceaƱera themed party to attend. Also, my parents are coming soooo soon and I'm busy brainstorming Austin-y things to do so they'll fall in love with this city and move here asap :)

Hope you're weekends are just as refreshing!

Fashion : Swim Time

Solid Print Suits

This summer, unlike the last, I'll be fully prepared for all the time spent in swimsuits here in Austin. With the Deep Eddy, Barton Springs, and family pools in abundance I'll need a new suit or two to keep up! I've brainstormed a few looks featuring bikini's and one pieces in solids and prints that have me inspired for those (dreadfully) hot summer days...

Simple Dessert Series : Chocolate Biscotti

Know what I love and am totally addicted to? Coffee. Know what goes really well with coffee? These delightful, not too sweet, crunchy Italian cookies. I've made biscotti in the past and wanted to go in a different direction for this go 'round and what better direction than chocolate? These are a cinch to make and fun to share.

Double Chocolate Biscotti
*recipe adapted from

  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 semi sweet chocolate chunks
In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in cocoa and baking powder. Beat for 2 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Stir in flour by hand. Mix in chocolate chips. Cover dough, and chill for about 10 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Divide dough into two parts, and roll each part into a 9 inch long log. Place logs on lightly greased cookie sheet, about 4 inches apart. Flatten slightly. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on cookie sheet for 5 minutes, then carefully transfer to a wire rack to cool for one hour. Cut each loaf into 1/2 inch wide diagonal slices. Place slices on an ungreased cookie sheet, and bake at 325 degrees F ( 165 degrees C) for 9 minutes. Turn cookies over, and bake for 7 to 9 minutes. Cool completely, then store in an airtight container.

Fashion : Simple Strap Sandal

Simple Strap Sandal

J.Crew low heel wedge sandals / Sam Edelman sandals / Mossimo sandals / Loeffler randall shoes

I love the look of these minimalistic strappy sandals and when a coworker came in with a black suede pair from J. Crew I knew I had to find something similar. It was time for new wedges anyway and I came across a great looking shoe at Nordstrom Rack. I say shoe because it's twin was nowhere to be found. I copied down the style name and scoured the internet and ended up ordering the fun leopard Sam Edelmans pictured lower right. Target is also on its game with $20 Mossimo styles in several colors.

What summer sandal styles have caught your eye? I hear gladiators are back in a big way!

Fashion : Menswear PJ's

Menswear PJ's

J Crew long sleeve night shirt / Tory Burch polka dot pj / Olivia von Halle silk pajama set / Olivia von Halle lingerie sleepwear / Lingerie sleepwear

For two years I've been wanting super comfortable menswear pajamas. I love the way they look on both men and very classy. I had a pretty great week at work and finally bit the bullet and treated myself to a fabulous J. Crew set that just so happened to be on sale. I'm waiting on pins and needles for my monogrammed hydrangea colored pj's to arrive and in the meantime I thought I'd share a handful more sets of these sleeping beauties.

When Alli Came to Town

You guys, I know the picture quality is terrible, but I don't care. I had the best BEST surprise of my life thus far last Thursday! At 6:45am my sister and her friend Felicia show up on my door step totally unannounced... it. was. awesome!! I've been begging my sister to visit since I moved here and never would have expected she'd come without telling me. There was lots of screaming and lots of hugging. How I made it though work that day is anyone's guess.

Felicia and Alli picked a perfect weekend, I mean, SXSW?! It doesn't get better than that! We spent some time downtown taking in the festivities, we hiked, we went to a huge arcade, we had a bonfire, we rocked out at Alamo Drafthouse's 80's Sing-Along in head to toe 80's fashion. It was an absolute blast having two of my favorite people visit!

Now to nail down a time to return the favor...

I love you, Alli! Thank you so much, Felicia, for getting my sister here and home again safely <3

Fashion : Sky Blue for Spring

Navy top, $25 / 7 For All Mankind clothing / Yves Saint Laurent blue leather handbag / Anne Klein colorful jewelry / ECUA-ANDINO Panama hat / L.G.R Nairobi Polarised Round-Frame Acetate Sunglasses

I mentioned yesterday how head over heels I am for Lupita Nyong'o's sky blue Prada Oscar dress. She looked like an absolute angel. Spring fashions are starting to filter into stores and I'm set on incorporating a few lovely pastels into my mostly neutral color palate. First on the list is this gorgeous light blue. It's so etherial and I think something small like the Anne Klein wristwatch above is a great way to ease into more dreamy Spring fare. What are your thoughts on pastels for Spring? Anyone still on the neon kick?
